Tackle cyber scams like a pro

Cyber fraud is on the rise, with scammers increasingly impersonating service providers or law enforcement officials. At Jio, your security is our top priority, and we firmly believe that prevention is the best defence. That’s why we consider it our responsibility to keep you informed and help you stay one step ahead of scammers. To that end, we encourage you to familiarise yourself with how scammers operate and stay updated on useful tips to protect yourself from such threats.
Scammers may contact you through calls, SMS, WhatsApp, emails, or social media, using a variety of tactics, including:
  • Intimidation: They'll threaten you with 'digital arrest' or claim courier packages sent/received by you with illegal items.
  • Urgent Actions: They can claim your phone will be disconnected or bank accounts will be blocked.
  • Sensitive Information Requests: Scammers can demand PAN, Aadhaar, bank details, UPI IDs, or OTPs.
  • App Downloads: They can ask you to download apps that give them access to your device.
  • Fake Inquiries: Impersonate fake buyers or representatives of courier delivery/food delivery to get personal details.
  • Social Media Scams: Reach you through fake profiles or messages asking for personal information or money.
  • PRS (Premium Rate Service) Scams: You receive missed calls from international numbers (not starting with +91). Calling back unknowingly connects you to a premium rate service, with very high call charges.
To effectively tackle these tactics, the following helpful tips will prove to be invaluable:
  • Avoid Unknown Links: Don’t click on unsolicited links or attachments.
  • Protect Personal Info: Never share or confirm your personal details over the phone or send messages to unknown people.
  • Guard Your OTPs: Never share OTPs, even if urgent.
  • Be Cautious with Calls: Don’t answer video calls from unknown numbers.
  • Use Strong Passwords: Keep unique passwords and update them regularly.
  • Monitor Statements: Check bank/card statements regularly.
  • Report Suspicious Activity: Block and report suspicious contacts to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Helpline at 1930.
  • Ignore Unknown Missed Calls: Avoid calling back unknown international numbers and block suspicious numbers.
